Soho Apartment

Residence Designed by Chengwen Tang

Located near Songshan Airport in Taipei, the Soho Apartment, designed by Chengwen Tang, is a unique residential project that combines functionality and aesthetics. The inspiration for this design came from two sources: the proximity to the airport and the interests of the homeowner. The goal was to create a quality living environment that would last for more than 10 years.

The design team took into consideration the challenges posed by the location and the existing layout of the apartment. The noise from the airport and the cramped interior were major concerns that needed to be addressed. Through innovative design and renovation, the team aimed to improve the overall living experience, making it airy, light, and interactive for the whole family.

The Soho Apartment stands out with its unique features and strengths. The ceiling design, inspired by the shape of the airport, adds a distinctive touch to the space. The use of arc line work resolves the height differences between structural beams, floors, and appliances, creating a visually elevated ceiling. This design element not only enhances the aesthetics but also follows the principle of "Form Follows Function," echoing the Bauhaus design mantra.

The materials used in the realization of this design include cement-like paint, timber veneer board, genuine timber board, frosted glass, tiles, and metalwork pieces. These elements come together to create a harmonious and modern living space that is both functional and visually appealing.

The Soho Apartment spans 73 square meters and was completed between June 2018 and January 2019. The project showcases the creativity and technical expertise of Chengwen Tang and his team at Sophysouldesign. The design has received recognition and was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2020.
